Our Leeds self storage and Bradford self storage teams are proud to share our continued support of Simon on the Streets – a local charity dedicated to providing emotional and practical support for people facing homelessness and we wanted to share some details about the invaluable work that they do.
Since Simon on the Streets was founded, they have helped thousands of individuals struggling with homelessness and poverty.
The team at Simon on the Streets are trained volunteers who deliver a range of services on an outreach basis, including; outreach support, practical advice, hot meals and assistance with accessing housing and other essential services.
The mobile outreach service is where trained volunteers travel around locations looking for people who need support, which allows them to reach individuals who many not access support through traditional methods. This ensures they can help those who need it most.
Simon on the Streets also run a drop-in centre, which allows individuals to come in for a hot meal, and receive support or guidance from the brilliant volunteers. The drop-in centre provides a safe and welcoming space which is essential for those struggling with homelessness or are at risk of homelessness.
In order for Simon on the Streets to continue to do their exceptional work, they rely on the generosity of donors and volunteers. They are always looking for people who are passionate about making a difference in their community and helping others. If you are able to donate, here’s an idea of where your money will be spent:
• £5 provides a cup of tea and sandwich to engage a rough sleeper.
• £10 can provide hot drinks for 40 people who are homeless or vulnerably housed on Simon on the Street’s weekly soup run.
• £15 could give someone a phone with credit, to help Simon on the Streets stay in contact with them and reminder them of their appointments.
• £20 could pay travel costs for a homeless person to attend a flat viewing or benefits appointment with a Simon on the Streets outreach worker.
