House Movers Increase At Leeds Storage Facility

For the duration of the pandemic, the UK housing market has been through ups and downs - experiencing both unprecedented restrictions, followed by a mini boom. The initial measures introduced in March 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak prohibited house sales. Following the relaxation of these rules, as well as the influence of the Stamp Duty holiday, the market saw more mortgages being approved overall in 2020 than in the whole of 2019.
Across all of The Store Room's self storage sites, we have seen an increase in the number of people storing with us between moves.
Self Storage and Moving House
Using self storage is both a helpful and often crucial stage of moving house. Household customers use self storage for a number of different reasons, commonly between house moves; this is especially relevant at the moment, with Rightmove reporting in January 2021 that many house sale transactions are experiencing delays in the process. These delays mean that people can be caught between properties, and in these cases storage provides a necessary solution. Longer-term storage is also often required when customers are downsizing, and no longer have space for all of the items they want to keep.

The Store Room's Leeds self storage site has been no exception to the increase in demand for storage space, with many of these new customers using the site between house moves. The city of Leeds experienced a surge in the house market at the end of 2020, reflected in sales prices rising by more than 6%. Dan Beer, Associate Director at The Store Room, said: "We have been serving record numbers of house movers across all of our sites over the past few months, in particular at our Leeds site. It is always satisfying to be able to provide support for people at such a stressful time!"
